The 5 Stages of Discovering Your Life Purpose

Centuries ago, Plato revealed the importance of
knowing your purpose when he said, "More will be
accomplished & better & with more ease, if every man
does what he is best fitted to do and nothing else."
Now more than ever in the modern world, most human
beings long to have more meaning and connection in
their life.

The missing link is often knowing and living by your
life purpose. Contrary to popular belief, you should
not leave this important discovery up to fate. You
will need to make a conscious decision to find what it
is and then to align your life goals with it.

Discovering your life purpose will allow you to
reconnect with your soul, and enable you to make a
significant contribution to the world. Your life
purpose will often seem "bigger than life." You may
even wonder if you have gotten the right assignment!

The truth is your purpose was designed especially for
you, and it will fit you like a glove, so no one else
can fulfill it except you! Your purpose is not to be
mistaken for your job or title. It is a calling or
mission than transcends everything you do, and
provides direction and focus to your relationships and
projects. Your life purpose is about being and doing;
who you want to be and what you want to do.

When living your life "on purpose," you are more
fulfilled. As a result, you can show others how to
live up to their full potential. When who you are and
what you do are in alignment with your authentic self,
anything is possible! When you are living out your
purpose, you feel more passion for life, more
vitality; you have a spark and a brightness that
shines for others to see. You will have more meaning,
a higher sense of self worth, and a more spiritual
relationship with life around you.

Sounds wonderful, right---so how can you begin to
know? You start the discovery process by raising your
self-awareness, getting in touch with your inner self,
and then making changes to align with your higher
purpose.

What follows are the 5 stages you will go through:

5 Stages to Discovering Your Life Purpose

1. Awakening

This is the stage where you awaken to the fact that
you have a bigger game to play in life-a unique
personal and professional purpose.
If you are awakening, you are beginning to notice a
restlessness in your soul, you may be having trouble
sleeping, getting intuitive messages, having symbolic
dreams.

2. Awareness

This is the stage where you become aware that you need
to find out exactly what your life purposes are.
If you are becoming aware, you are wanting to find out
more about what else there is to life, desiring more
fulfillment and meaning, and feeling more awake about
who you really are.

3. Acceptance

This is the stage where you accept your life purposes
and come to terms with what it means to you and the
world.

If you are in acceptance, you are beginning to embrace
the idea that your life has purpose, realizing it is
your job to be it and do it, and wanting to find out
how.

4. Articulating

This is the stage where you articulate your life
purposes by putting them into words.
If you are articulating, you are putting in words what
it is that you are meant to be and do, starting to
share it with others, and getting excited about it.

5. Acting
This is the stage where you take action by moving
towards the fulfillment of your life purposes.

If you are taking action, you have begun making
major personal and professional life changes that are
more in alignment with who you are and what you are
meant to do.

NO MORE PROBLEM

One man exclaimed to his friend, "I just had another fight
with my wife!"

"Oh, yeah?" the friend said. "And how did this one end?"

"When it was over," he replied, "she came to me on her hands
and knees."

His friend looked puzzled. "Really? Now that's a switch!
What did she say?"

"I think she said something like, 'Come out from under that
bed, you gutless weasel.'"

Before your conflict escalates to that point, consider
trying to solve your problem creatively. The novel, and
sometimes humorous, approach is often the most effective!

A few years ago, I caught a story on the radio about a
Baptist church that had a problem. It was with the
Methodists down the street. Some Baptists were unable to
find a space in their own parking lot because members of
the nearby Methodist church, which met earlier than the
Baptists, got there first. So the Baptist church had a
problem.

Now, they could have towed the Methodists' cars away. Or
they could have patrolled their lot Sunday mornings. Or
they could have written a letter to the offending church
members imploring them to park elsewhere. But they didn't.

Instead, they did something else. One Sunday morning they
stuck a bumper sticker to every car in the lot -- Baptist
and Methodist alike. They all got one. The sticker read:
"I'm Proud To Be A Baptist!"

No more problem.

Maybe that problem you are confronting will be solved more
quickly and more effectively if you consider a more creative
and humorous approach. What have you got to lose...except
